Create a Life that You Can’t Wait to Wake up To

Do you ever read these quotes and get all excited, like, “Yeah, I’m totally gonna create that life, blah, blah, blah…” and then your eyes glaze over as you continue to scroll to whatever…

I got to thinking, what if you actually could create that life that you can’t wait to wake up to? What would that even look like? How is it different from the life you live now? Why haven’t you made the changes yet?  In therapy, we Therapists, use the “Miracle Question”-

Imagine that tonight as you sleep a miracle occurs in your life.

A magical momentous happening that has completely solved a problem and perhaps rippled out to cover and infinitely improve other areas of your life too…

Think for a moment and tell me… how is life going to be different now?

Describe it in detail.

What’s the first thing you’ll notice as you wake up in the morning?

The idea is to help you figure out what is important to you and instead of focusing only on how big their problem is, and how difficult life is because of it, it switches your attention to what ’s gonna happen after the problem is dealt with – focusing on the  future you want.

Often, when we think of this amazing life that we can’t wait to wake up to, we instantly go to the reasons why we can’t actually have it:

  • Money

  • Time

  • Energy

  • Resources

So we put off the idea because we “believe” (or have convinced ourselves)that we have to have it all figured out before we can make a change.

But what if we took a leap and made some changes, even if we don’t have everything all lined up (money, time, energy, resources) perfectly? We’ve all heard “the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”. What if we somehow found the courage to take a step, even a small one?

I believe that change happens in our minds long before we see it in our actions.  I have seen many clients and a few colleagues who were so afraid of change, begin to take a step, even a small one, out of the comfort zone and start to see the benefits.  Having a safe space to share these fears and feelings can help overcome the obstacles/reasons/excuses that have been holding us back from creating the Life That You Can’t Wait To Wake Up To!
